Gas Geyser Installation Price Guide for Harare

A transparent breakdown of what a gas geyser actually costs to buy and install in Harare — unit prices, labour rates, gas piping, flueing, and the compliance work that keeps your family safe and your insurance valid.

How much does a gas geyser cost in Harare?

For most family homes in Harare, a fully installed gas geyser lands between USD $450 and $1,200. The unit itself is usually the biggest line item, followed by the gas piping run from your cylinder and the flueing required to vent safely. Smaller 6–12 L/min units for cottages and apartments can be done for less; large 20 L/min units feeding multiple bathrooms cost more.

The numbers below are real working ranges we quote on in 2026. Use them as a sanity check before paying any plumber — if a quote is far below or far above, ask why.

Gas geyser unit prices

Sized by litres-per-minute of hot water. Pick by household, not by price alone — an undersized unit means cold showers.

  • Wall mounting, water inlet/outlet plumbing and isolation valves
  • LPG line in copper or approved hose with regulator and bullnose

  • Commissioning, hot-water flow test and homeowner handover

Safety & compliance in Harare

Gas work isn't DIY territory. A wrong flue or a leaking joint can be fatal — and most home insurance policies will refuse a claim without proof of compliant installation.

  • Installations follow SANS 10087-1 (LPG installations) — the standard adopted across the region including Zimbabwe
  • Indoor units must be room-sealed (forced flue) or vented to outside air
  • Minimum clearances from windows, doors and electrical points are enforced
  • Cylinders must be stored upright, outdoors, on a stable non-combustible base
  • Every job is leak-tested and you receive a written Certificate of Compliance

Frequently asked questions

How long does the installation take?

A straightforward swap on an external wall takes 3–5 hours. A first-time install with new gas piping and flueing usually runs a full day.

Can I use my existing electric geyser plumbing?

Yes — the hot and cold water connections re-use your existing pipework in most cases. Only the gas line and flue are new.

What cylinder size do I need?

For occasional use a 9 kg or 19 kg cylinder is fine. For a family using the geyser daily, a 48 kg cylinder (or two 19 kg in a manifold) is far more economical and avoids running out mid-shower.

Is gas cheaper than electric over time?

In Harare, yes — especially with load-shedding. Gas heats on demand, so you only pay for the hot water you actually use, and you never lose hot water when the power goes out.

Do you supply the geyser or do I buy it?

Either works. We can supply at trade price (cheaper than retail in most cases) or install a unit you've already purchased — as long as it's a known, certified brand.
